This is certainly a beautiful country! In all England, I do not believe that I could have fixed on a situation so completely removed from the stir of society. A perfect misanthropist’s heaven: and Mr. Heathcliff and I are such a suitable pair to divide the desolation between us.
As from the age of sixteen I have been fascinated by Emily Brontë’s novel ‘Wuthering Heights’. I read the novel many times and frequently visited Emily’s residential village of Haworth and the surrounding moors in West Yorkshire (UK). I felt I wanted to make a visual impression of my relationship with the book. For me this relationship mainly lies in the character of Heathcliff and the overwhelming environment his and Catherine’s story is set in.
Though often called a love story ‘Wuthering Heights’ is much more than that. It is a story about juvenile love, abandonment, revenge, the human condition and social mobility. Combined with the spiritual elements that coincide with the mystery of the moors the novel is one of a kind and one of the greatest in English Literature.
In the course of time I have read many books about Emily and her sisters and their work. If you want to know more about the book or if you want me to do a presentation on the book please do not hesitate to contact me.
The photography project will be finished in 2025, more photographs and text will be added in the course of 24/25.
